THE ORPHEUS PROJECT

 

 

A new and original musical/dance work, created and performed by the
Diploma Program students of the East Bay Center.

As a culmination of the 2009 Summer Diploma Program, EBCPA will be presenting a workshop performance, loosely based upon the classic Greek myth of loss and transformation, Orpheus and Euridice.
The show will weave the multiple strands of our program- West African Dance, Jazz, Classical Chamber Music, Ballet, Hip-Hop Dance, Modern Dance, Mexican Music and Dance, Theater, Chorus- into an urban retelling of  a universal and timeless story.

YANGA CELEBRATION



In Yanga, Mexico, the first "free town of the Americas," Carnaval is dedicated to black African culture. Celebrate this tradition at the Oakland Museum with The West African Music & Dance Ensemble, directed by CK Ladezkpo in collaboration with Son de la Tierra, directed Artemio Posadas, both resident companies at the East Cay Center for the Performing Arts in Richmond, with special guests Los Utrera - direct from from Mexico.
