PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOPS

The East Bay Center has been offering professional development for K-6 educators for the last six years.  The programs have ranged from federally funded year long programs in Contra Costa County, to partnering with Arts Anchor Schools in Alameda County, to afterschool teacher workshops for WCCUSD.  Out of these programs teacher created lesson plans and full curricula have been written, all available for download and classroom use.

In today's educational climate professional development in the arts is more important than ever. Under NCLB, the arts are a core content area. Recent research from the Hewlett Foundation, the Pew Charitable Trust, the Arts Education Partnership and Project Zero at Harvard have demonstrated the importance of the arts not only in creating schools in which children are engaged in their learning but contributing to cognitive development in important and unique ways.

The workshops provide professional development for teachers in the following critical areas:

  • Arts Integration Skills
  • Theater and writing skills
  • Innovative literacy learning approaches
  • Arts & basic curriculum integration
  • Interdisciplinary and multi-cultural project based learning curricula
  • Working with Open Court, Prentice-Hall and the California Language Arts Standards
  • Working with the Visual and Performing Arts Frameworks
  • Classroom management techniques

Workshop experiences and materials exemplify the California Visual and Performing Arts Framework and Content Standards. Workshops emphasize critical thinking, imagination, problem-solving and creative collaboration.

The East Bay Center is looking for teacher created arts integrated lessons. To find out how your lesson can be posted contact us.
