Young people, parents, residents, community organizations, local unions, elected officials and funders came together to develop a campaign and ballot measures that would establish a fund and department within the the City of Richmond, dedicated to serving Richmond’s children and youth.

Last year, Richmond voters approved Measures E and K, known as the Richmond Kids First Initiative. Congruently, these measures require a portion of General Fund revenue be set aside to fund youth programs and services. These measures also established the creation of the Department of Children and Youth and the development of the Richmond Fund for Children and Youth, both with the goals of improving the lives and increasing positive futures for young people in Richmond.

The Department of Children and Youth operates under the guidance of the Office of the City Manager. A team has convened and is excited to engage with community partners to begin the development of the department. To learn more about the Department CLICK HERE.

This event is co-hosted by: The City of Richmond’s Department of Children & Youth, the Richmond Kids First Committee and the Invest in Youth Coalition.
